Does Grass Fed Beef Cook Differently?

Yes! Grass fed beef is leaner and cooks differently than grain fed beef. When cooked with just a few adjustments, grass fed beef is wonderfully tender. Below are some pointers to help you cook your premium quality, grass fed beef to perfection.

• Grass fed beef requires 30% less cooking time than grain fed beef.

• Achieve a delicious sear on your steak and then allow it to finish cooking at a much lower temperature.

• Always use tongs to turn steaks. Forget the fork: it will pierce the meat, allowing flavorful juices to escape.

• Grass fed beef is intended for rare to medium-rare cooking. Use a meat thermometer as a gauge of doneness rather than cooking time.

• Since grass fed beef is lower in fat, coat with a light oil to prevent drying and sticking.

• Baste to add moisture throughout the grilling process. Don’t forget grass fed beef requires less cooking time so don’t leave your steaks unattended.

• If roasting, reduce the temperature of your traditional recipes developed for grain fed beef by 50 degrees. This usually means around 275 degrees or at the lowest heat setting in a crock pot.

• Let meat rest for 10-15 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain to serve.

What is the difference between Natural Grass Fed Beef and Organic Grass Fed Beef?

SunFed Ranch is committed to raising all of our cattle to the highest of standards. Whether you’re purchasing our organic or natural beef, you can trust that all SunFed Ranch cattle meet stringent standards.

No hormones. No antibiotics. No corn. Simple as that.

We are proud to offer two different lines of 100% grass fed and grass finished beef, Organic and Natural, delivered to your door. The SunFed Ranch Organic Grass Fed Beef program follows rigorous traceability and segregation practices that are verified by third-party auditors to ensure ingredient integrity through to the finished product.

The SunFed Ranch Natural Grass Fed Beef cattle follow similar strict standards and are raised as organically as possible. The main difference between the programs is that cattle, pastures, feed, processing and value-added product ingredients are not routinely audited, tested and certified through third party auditors for our Natural beef program like our Organic program. The Natural cattle may graze on non-certified or verified pastures, whereas the Organic cattle must graze on organically-certified pastures. The Natural program allows us to offer you sustainably and humanely-raised grass beef at a lower price point since there in not the cost and time burden of the verification process.
